BRUCE LEE: BRUCE LEE COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD, AND TAUGHT ALL OF US THAT A TRUE CHAMPION IS SELDOM, IF EVER, ONE WHO WINS A TOURNAMENT, BUT RATHER, A TRUE CAHMPION OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT IS ONE WHO LOOKS UPON A PERSON AS AN INDIVIDUAL RATHER THAN AS A MEMBER OF A GROUP, SECT, OR NATIONALITY. A TRUE CHAMPION OF THE SPIRIT STANDS UP AGAINST THE CROWD TO SPEAK FOR WHAT IS RIGHT, GOOD, AND BENEFICIAL TO HUMANITY THROUGH THE ART OF LEADING BY EXAMPLE, AND THUS THIS TRUE MASTER OF ZEN LEADS PEOPLE OUT OF THE DARK, INTO THE LIGHT, WHERE THEY ARE THEN EMPOWERED TO SEE THEIR OWN REFLECTION AND FULLY REALIZE THAT THEY MUST SERVE AS THEIR OWN LEADER/S BY FINDING A WAY TO FULLY EXPRESS THEMSELVES THROUGH MEDITATIVE MOTION OF MARTIAL ARTS AND THROUGH OTHER VERY PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GOOD OF HUMANITY.
BRUCE LEE: BRUCE LEE ALSO GAVE US A COMPASSIONATE PRESCRIPTION FOR RECOGNIZING OUR OWN PERSONAL FREEDOM AND BRINGING OUR FREEDOM TO FRUTION THROUGH THE ART OF MEDITATIVE MOVEMENT OF MARTIAL ARTS & THROUGH OTHER PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GOOD OF HUMANITY.
BRUCE LEE: BRUCE LEE WAS AN ADVOCATE FOR APPLYING THE MORAL, ETHICAL, PROBLEM-SOLVING, EMPOWERING PRINCIPLES OF MARTIAL ART/S TO EVERY ASPECT OF ONE’S LIFE (NOT JUST TO PHYSICAL CONFRONTATIONS BUT ALSO TO ABSTRACT CHALLENGES SUCH AS SPIRITUAL, EMOTIONAL, (PSYCHO-SOCIAL), PSYCHOLOGICAL, SOCIAL, FINANCIAL, AND POLITICAL CHALLENGES . . . SUCH THAT YOU INFINITELY AND INCREASINGLY BECOME AS LIVING WATER WHO READILY AND EFFORTLESSLY ADAPTS TO ANY LEVEL OF CHALLENGE BY FLOWING AS WATER RIGHT THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE ADVERSITY IN A STRAIGHT PATH (THIS IS THE “ENLIGHTENED PATH” WHERE TRUE PERSONAL POWER RESIDES – JUST AS WAS THE CASE WITH BRUCE LEE’S “FOUR-INCH PUNCH”) FROM WHERE ONE STARTS, DIRECTLY TOWARDS YOUR GOAL OF PERSONAL SUCCESS. IN DOING SO, IF YOUR OWN FAITH IN YOURSELF IS STRONG ENOUGH, YOU WILL SUCCEED IN OVERCOMING ANY CHALLENGE AND YOU WILL SUCCEED WITHOUT INTERNALIZING ANY HURT, SUFFERING, INJURY, OR SORROW OR SHAME OF ANY KIND. STILL YET, YOU WILL SUCCEED WITH EASE AND GRACE, BUT YOU WILL DO SO ONLY IF YOUR INTERNAL “PENDULUM OF HUMAN EMOTION AND EXPERIENCE” CONTINUOUSLY AND INFINITELY GROWS MORE STILL SUCH THAT YOUR PENDULUM IS INCREASINGLY LOCATED RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF ITS RANGE OF MOTION: THIS IS WHERE TRUE, PERSONAL PEACE IS FOUND.
Bruce Lee often philosophized about how Life is a continuous state of learning (as long as you ALLOW it to be) He also mentioned that, “A Martial Artist is also an artist of life.” This followed with his contention that everyone is a student and everyone is a teacher because new experiences with different people (such as a continuous stream of varied fighters/people from an infinite number of backgrounds) always offer opportunities to learn through your physical, psychological, emotional, cognitive, & political interactions (as well as an infinite number of other types of interactions) with any and all new people that you meet, or even with a person you have known for a very long time but suddenly reveals a new trait that you did not previously know about. Master Lee was correct by saying that you must ALWAYS learn, not only from competing against others, but also from competing against oneself: Learn from your OWN artistic meditative movement through practical application (sparing is but only one form of practical application) so that you learn how to completely express your individuality through the Martial Art that you practice. Your “form” should not be an impersonation of Ip Man’s forms or of any one else’s forms, unless you are just barely starting to learn Martial Arts; but rather, your forms should evolve to the point that you literally flow just as water which has no crystalized form. Therefore, when someone asks you, “What lineage of Wing Chun do you practice?” Simply smile and respond, “I practice my OWN lineage of Martial Arts and I have NO form.”

Bruce Lee quoted, “Understanding your fear is the beginning of truly seeing.” Fear is our worst enemy. You MUST understand the specific nature of your fear: When does this demon of fear attack you? How does the demon of fear attack you? Where does this demon of fear attack you? If you understand the way fear operates then you can defeat this demon by using Wing Chun’s principle of simultaneously blocking the attacks of fear and counterattacking your fear by flowing gracefully as water right through the center of what causes you to feel afraid, because this central, direct path is the path of enlightenment. Psalm 23:4 prays, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil. Thy are with me. Thy rod and thy staff; they comfort me.” This prayer is very calming, settling, and encourages you to step forth boldly. The bible makes several references to the fact that this world is not governed by Christ, but is in fact governed by evil. I encourage you to wake up each day, look in the mirror, and say, “Today I will concur this world of evil with the single strongest power that Christ has endowed me with: Love.”
Bruce Lee was and is an advocate for allowing your body to move naturally without overthinking your intended actions, as a result of muscle memory which is developed from years of application.
THE GRAND MASTER, IP MAN, SEEN HERE TRAINING THE ICONIC BUT YOUNG . . . BRUCE LEE IN A TRAINING APPLICATION (DRILL) CALLED “STICKY HANDS,” IN WHICH YOU KEEP YOUR HANDS AND ARMS IN CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER’S OPPONENT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STRIKE YOUR OPPONENT WITH THE HANDS OR ELBOWS WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY BLOCKING YOUR OPPONENT’S ATTACKS. THE DRILL IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE THE STUDENT’S AWARENESS OF HIS OR HER OPPONENT’S MOVEMENTS SO THAT THE STUDENT LEARNS TO INTUITIVELY PERCEIVE WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW HE OR SHE WILL BE ATTACKED, & RESPOND TO THESE ATTACKS WITH AN INSTINCTIVE BLOCK & COUNTERATTACK. IT IS AN “OFFENSIVE DEFENSE” OR A “DEFENSIVE OFFENSE.”
Bruce Lee, as well as Ip Man (his teacher), believed that the ultimate form of sophistication is simplicity. Bruce Lee stated that “The best technique in offense (&) defense is the simple one, performed properly . . . at just the right time.”
